Back to School?

A strange thing happened this week. I didn’t go buy school supplies. Neither did I pay school fees, or fill out endless forms to be turned in to the “front office.” I didn’t shop the back to school sales and buy new backpacks. There are no new mechanical pencils in the house!

For the first time in 24 years no one in our home is going to school this August. And because of this I smile. Driving to school was my part time job for those 24 years. Christian school tuition and public school fees kept the bank account humble. Tracking homework and last minute projects, practices and grades, sucked a lot of time and energy out of me. Day after day and year after year we did school. And then there it was, 24 years later. In all those years there was one word I said almost every day.

Looking back at  how quickly the years passed, I guess we did.

Sweet Momma, if I could tell you one thing it would be to take a slower approach whenever you can. Savor those precious gifts God has given you, even on those days when they are hanging all over you and stressing you out! Read to them, play a game, smile as much as you can and hug every chance you get. There will be a thousand things you need to do tomorrow. Enjoy the blessing of your family today!

James 4:14
For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

Your life, their life, is like a mist that is soon gone away. Cherish it.

And if you’re sending them off to school this week I pray you can take a little time to not hurry!
