Are you mapping your walk?

My friend Karen and I have been walking buddies for over 20 years. We have logged a lot of miles together! We have also been guilty of taking breaks for much longer than we had planned. It’s easy to start strong and then have a gentle fade in the “gung ho” intensity we both start out with. Recently, we decided to download the free app “Map My Walk” to log our miles, time, and calories burned. There is just something about reflecting on your accomplishment that drives you to keep going.

As I was reviewing the stats from my app, it occurred to me that I should be mapping my walk with Jesus in some way. Mapping my walk with Jesus just might be a great way to help regain focus, generate new excitement, and remind me of all the great blessings He has given me along the way.   I truly want to live a gratuitous lifestyle toward the Father!

I used to journal every single day, but not so much anymore. I would even write letters to the Lord regularly. I used to go back and read through some of the old letters and stand in amazement of how God answered so many things I totally forgot about.

Having my friend Karen join me in mapping my physical walks has proved to be such a source of healthy accountability. We both show up because we realize we wouldn’t do our walks alone. We talk about everything from soup to nuts which makes the time pass quickly. We motivate each other to keep going and lo and behold we are consistently doing 6 miles 3-4 days each week. This is more than we have ever done in 20 years and we are both over age 40!!!

Our journey with Jesus is to be done in fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ as well. He had no intentions of us going it alone!

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:

10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls?and has no one to help them up.

11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?

12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Find a buddy and start mapping your walk with Jesus! Both of you will be blessed, strengthened, and excited about venturing into new places the Lord wants to take you!!!
