A Messy Oven is a Sure Sign of Something Great Cookin’!

How many times have you baked a delicious cobbler or a super cheesy casserole only to peak through the oven door to find it bubbling over?  We all have!!!  I hate that mess and always have such dread just thinking about the task of cleaning my oven.  Actually, I don’t do it that often and I even have a self-cleaning oven.  haha  Those things help, but they still require quite a bit of elbow grease.  Not my idea of fun girls.

I remember when I was growing up my Me-Ma would always get in such a tizzy if she noticed something in her oven starting to boil over.  She would grab oven mitts and start sliding cookie sheets on the bottom rack in hopes of catching the most of the mess all the while echoing a loud, “Ooohhhh Nooooo” throughout the house.

I have been going through a season of change, but honestly I have not recognized this time so much as change, but more like sheer misery.  Then it occurred to me, some degree of misery is always accompanied by change.  That pressing in feeling that makes you aware how out of your comfort zone you are constantly.  I’ll tell you what else I’ve noticed.  I’ve been seeking the Lord with an intensity I’ve lacked for a little while.  What do you do with that my friends?  Just typing those words hits me right between the eyes.  I should be seeking Him with that intensity all the time.  I’m thankful He extends such grace and mercy.

The Lord brought to my mind the illustration of how a messy oven is a sure sign something great is cookin’!  I guess He knows what makes sense to my little mind. (smile) This made me grin because as much as I hate to deal with a messy oven, I LOVE the very things that always make a mess in my oven!!!  It’s always spectacular and I usually go back for more!!!  So whatever God is up to in this season of change it is sure to be super great!!!

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

So glad the Holy Spirit will give each of us the very reminder we need to know He’s got us covered in any and every season of this life on earth.

Be blessed my friends!

THANK YOU Kelli for sharing this memory of your Me-Ma and using it to illustrate a spiritual truth! I am such a season myself and I don’t ever want to “wander” away from intentional hour-by-hour dependence on our Lord! Blessings, Cheryl
